As key stakeholders, an organization’s management team (including project management, resource management and upper management) must change and adjust their approaches to align with agile values. Their support and involvement plays a significant role that can make or break an agile team.

In order to take full advantage of agile, the organization must have a program and portfolio framework that is just as mature as the teams’ agile mindset. Everyone involved with an agile project needs to have an understanding of the needs they are trying to satisfy and the approach they are using to satisfy those needs. This course is designed to introduce product owners and management to the agile values, principles, and techniques, as well as an overview of various agile approaches (Scrum, Kanban), the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and value management.


At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Review the concepts of agile and discuss the impacts to the organization.
  • Understand the agile product owner’s role in an agile environment and the benefit in creating a subject matter expert support team.
  • Learn an approach to determining Minimum Viable Product and ROI.
  • Understand a featured driven approach to value management.
  • Suggestions for creating healthy and sustainable agile teams.
  • Identify ways to change actions, behaviors, and results to drive agile values.


There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

Course Materials

Each student will receive a copy of the course documentation prepared by Netmind.


There isn’t an official certification associated with this course. However, students will earn 7 credit hours for their attendance.


A certificate of attendance will be issued to students who attend the course for at least 75% of the duration.

Course Outline

  1. Introduction to Agile
    1. Discuss the Manifesto for Agile Software Development and lean thinking principles for an agile mindset
    2. Review the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) as well as Scrum and Kanban
    3. Define the various roles in an agile environment
    4. Describe what activities are performed by the roles used in an agile environment
    5. Explain agile approaches impacts on how teams work and the techniques and processes they use
      1. Conduct a team skills assessment
      2. Discuss the benefits of creating a product council
      3. Coaching versus managing resources
    6. Understand product ownership and the various roles involved in that activity
  2. Professional Development
    1. Discuss the importance of creating cross-functional teams using the T-shaped model
    2. Develop rewards and recognition program to promote agile values
  3. Agile Planning Concepts
    1. Describe levels of agile value management planning
    2. Define capabilities and features
    3. Use objectives to measure value
    4. Create and leverage decision filters to prioritize and identify the Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
  4. Organizational Change
    1. Identify constructive approaches to achieve the changes needed to realize the benefits of agile
    2. Introduce concepts of organizational change and discuss how any change is people change
    3. Provide learners with a set of common value-reduction behaviors and activities and techniques to identify and communicate the associated risks
  5. Agile Transformation Approaches
    1. Discuss 3 approaches for transitioning to agile
      1. Big Bang
      2. Top Down
      3. Bottom Up
