Introduction to IIBA Certifications

In April 2015, the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) published the third edition of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK® Guide), the primary body of knowledge for business analysis. BABOK® Guide v3.0 describes the knowledge, techniques, and skills that a business analyst should possess.

Within the key concepts for business analysis, the IIBA® introduces a new model, the BACCM, which brings together six concepts that must have a common meaning for all business analysts: change, need, solution, stakeholder, value, and context. This model aims to provide a common terminology that is applicable in any kind of organization, project, or perspective related to business analysis. The 6 Knowledge Areas of BABOK v3.0 are:

  1. Planning and Monitoring
  2. Elicitation and Collaboration
  3. Requirements Life Cycle Management
  4. Strategy Analysis
  5. Requirements Analysis and Design Definition
  6. Solution Evaluation

The work associated with each Knowledge Area will depend on the level of change to be made, the stakeholders, and the context in which it is carried out. Download our infographic on BABOK v3.0.

The IIBA® offers 3 certifications based on the standards set forth in the BABOK®.
