Introduction

The objective of the course is to present students with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement the philosophy of continuous improvement in their organizations and/or departments. This is accomplished through planning in addition to project management, with continuous improvement executed by the team in limited periods of time, focused on minimizing “waste” and increasing value to the customer.

Objectives

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Know what a Kaizen event is and how it is planned
  • Use tools to identify waste and opportunities for improvement in the value chain
  • Learn techniques for analyzing the root cause of the aspects that generate waste
  • Work as a team to define and prioritize improvement actions
  • Understand visual management tools that allow the team to document and follow up on  continuous improvement  projects
  • Understand the importance of monitoring and standardizing improvement when implementing a philosophy of continuous improvement in organizations

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

Course Materials

Each student will receive a copy of the course documentation prepared by Netmind.

Methodology

Engaging and interactive face-to-face course. Our instructors teach all course materials using the demonstrative method; the participants learn new concepts through exercises and real application practices.

Certification

There isn’t an official certification associated with this course. However, students will earn 7 credit hours for their attendance.

Accreditation

A certificate of attendance will be issued to students who attend the course for at least 75% of the duration.

Course Outline

  1. Enter “Lean Mode”
    1. Brief review of the essential principles of the continuous improvement  philosophy, participants enter “Lean mode”
  2. Hosting a Kaizen Event
    1. Anatomy of a Kaizen event: What are they, and how are they run?
    2. Select the problem to be solved
    3. Define the roles of the Kaizen  event
    4. Draw flowcharts and collect any available documentation about the process
    5. Analyze process metrics: time, inventory, wait, etc.
    6. Discuss the objectives of the Kaizen
    7. Understanding Lean tools (SIPOC, VSM, etc.)
    8. Document the Process
    9. Define Possible Solutions from Data, Observations, and Discussions
    10. Discuss and approve the solutions raised
    11. Plan the solution follow-up to check improvement results
    12. Prepare to communicate the results to the organization
    13. Celebrate achievements
