What is Power BI certification?
The certification in Power BI refers to the official validation of the skills and knowledge of any professional in the use of Microsoft Power BI, a business intelligence tool that allows for the effective visualization and analysis of data and interactively. Microsoft currently offers five certifications related to Power BI, all of which are industry-recognized and can enhance the career opportunities of those who earn them. Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
This course covers the different methods and best practices aligned with business and technical requirements for modeling, visualizing, and analyzing data using Power BI.
Aimed at professionals closely involved in designing, implementing, and maintaining Power BIsolutions in business environments. For this reason, although experience with Power BI is required, experience in other environments such as Dynamics, Power Platform, and the Azure platform is also necessary. It is the only Power BI–related certification that requires passing two exams.

Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert (PL-600)
In this course, students will learn about the decisions a Solutions Architect makes during an implementation, covering security, integrations, Power Apps architecture, Power Automate architecture, and more.

These certifications require passing one or two specific exams that assess the relevant knowledge and skills. This knowledge can be acquired by completing the corresponding official courses at Netmind; however, in addition to training, prior experience using Power BI and/or other platforms is usually required. Professionals who earn these certifications demonstrate their ability to use Power BI effectively and to work with data in order to make informed decisions in a business environment.
Where Can You Take the Power BI Certification?
Like all official Microsoft exams, Power BI certification exams cost between €99 and €165 (plus taxes) and must be booked through the PearsonVUE portal. During the booking process, candidates can choose to take the exam at a Microsoft-authorized testing center such as Netmind, or online. If taking the exam online, it is necessary to install a dedicated application that launches the exam. Candidates must also have access to a separate, quiet room, as exams are continuously proctored in real time (via the computer’s camera and microphone) to prevent fraud.
Similarly, the application to be installed requires closing all remote access applications, instant messaging, and virtual machines, as well as showing photos of the room and an official photo ID such as an ID card or passport during the Check-in process. The vast majority of these exams are available in multiple languages, usually consist of around 50 multiple-choice questions, and have a time limit of approximately 2 hours. Exam appointments can usually be rescheduled free of charge as many times as needed, provided the change is made at least 72 hours before the scheduled exam time.

Like all Microsoft certifications, Power BI certifications are valid for 12 months. From the sixth month onward, candidates can take a new online assessment (at no cost) to extend the certification for an additional 12 months. This free renewal process must be completed before the certification expires; otherwise, the full exam must be taken again, including the associated cost. A certification can be extended as many times as necessary. It is important to note that evaluations are not limited in the number of retakes in the event of failure, as long as the corresponding certification has not expired.
