Introduction

The Systems Thinking Approach to Implement Kanban (STATIK) Workshop is a hands-on experience designed to teach the key fundamentals of the Kanban method. It provides a solid starting point for introducing it into any organization in an agile and effective way.

In just 8 hours of intensive training, participants will understand the purpose and benefits of STATIK, learn how to apply its steps in a real context, and how to design and evolve a Kanban system tailored to their needs.

Through dynamic activities and practical exercises, participants will identify sources of dissatisfaction in their current systems, analyze customer demand against responsiveness, discover classes of services, and model workflows to create visual boards that clearly reflect different types of work.

This workshop provides professionals with the specific tools necessary to optimize work management from a systemic service perspective, with the goal of improving value delivery, fostering collaboration, and continuously increasing customer satisfaction.

Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand STATIK, its benefits, and apply its steps in a real context.
  • Discover classes of services and define appropriate policies to manage Kanban systems, helping the professionals involved to make good decisions.
  • Design appropriate cards for the Kanban system, determining what information should be included and why it is relevant.
  • Recognize common patterns to model specific cases such as non-sequential work, different types of tasks, blockers, or other scenarios.
  • Apply design patterns to create a Kanban board that accurately represents workflow, item types, and other key elements.
  • Build the Kanban system based on the information obtained during the workshop.
  • Identify and resolve the main sources of dissatisfaction related to the design of the Kanban system.

Target audience

The workshop is aimed at professionals, teams, managers, or leaders from any company or sector who want to apply Kanban immediately in their daily work or scale it up to the organizational level. It is an ideal and practical introduction for those seeking to implement agile practices, build more adaptable teams, and obtain tangible outcomes that drive continual improvement in their organizations.

It is recommended to have previously taken the Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP) course to have a solid foundation in the principles and practices of the Kanban method and thus get the most out of the STATIK workshop content.

Prerequisites

All levels of experience are welcome. No prior knowledge or experience with Kanban is required.

It is recommended that participants have some experience in service delivery and have read “The Official Guide to the Kanban Method” and/or the book “Essential Kanban Condensed.”

Course Materials

All participants will receive one month of free access to the Better With Kanban+ (BWK+) platform, where they can access online the book “Discovering Kanban: The Evolutionary Path to Business Agility” by David J. Anderson (the updated edition of the well-known “Blue Book”).

In addition, they will have access to exclusive content on the Kanban method, including case studies, articles, posters, and videos that will enrich their learning and facilitate the practical application of what they have learned in the course.

Methodology

The workshop is delivered in face-to-face or online format, with an active and participative approach. Participants will incorporate the knowledge through real-world application exercises, working on real situations facilitated and guided by the trainer at all moments. This approach ensures the understanding, assimilation, and practical application of the main concepts and tools of the Kanban method from day one.

Certifications

All participants will receive a certificate of completion for the Kanban University STATIK workshop.

In addition, this workshop grants 4 PDU hours for “Ways of Working” and 4 hours for “Power Skills” from the Project Management Institute (PMI), contributing to participants’ continual professional development.

Accreditation

A Certificate of Attendance for STW 100 will be issued only to participants with an attendance above 75%, and a Diploma of Achievement will also be issued if they pass the assessment test.
