Introduction to ITIL 4 Strategist Leader: Digital and IT Strategy
This course adds a new perspective to the ITIL® 4 guide and elevates the discussion of ITIL® concepts to the organizational strategic level. As shown in the diagram, this course is part of the ITIL 4 Strategic Leader training track.
The ITIL 4 Strategist course Leader: Digital and IT Strategy enables digital and IT leaders to influence and tackle strategic business decisions, helping them to:
- Create a digital strategy aligned with the overall goals of the business.
- Understand how global business and IT leaders are responding to digital disruption.
- Explore the use of the ITIL® framework to support organizations on their digital transformation journey, addressing service management challenges and leveraging new technologies.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the use of ITIL® guiding principles in digital and IT strategy decisions and activities.
- Understand how to leverage digital strategy to respond to digital disruption.
- Understand the relationship between the concepts of digital and IT strategy, the service value system and the service value chain, and explain how to use them to create value.
- Understand how organizations use digital and IT strategy to remain viable in environments disrupted by digital technology.
- Understand the strategic approaches that enable digital and information technology to achieve customer/market relevance and operational excellence.
- Understand the risks and opportunities of digital and IT strategy.
- Understand the steps and techniques involved in defining and promoting a digital and IT strategy.
- Understand how to implement a digital and IT strategy.
Participant Profile
ITIL® 4 Digital and IT Strategy is aimed at business and IT directors, department heads, aspiring C-Suite (CxO) professionals, and other high-level business leaders throughout the organization, among others.
ITIL® 4 Digital and IT Strategy will help strategy and digital transformation consultants (both internal and external) demonstrate the differences between IT and digital strategies, provide guidance on their integration, and promote the importance of a successful digital strategy for business success.
Prerequisites
Participants must hold the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification.
It is recommended that participants have more than one year of professional experience in the IT sector.

Each participant will receive a copy of the course materials.
Methodology
- Presentation of concepts through explanatory slides.
- Discussions with participants on how the different ITIL® concepts are addressed in their companies.
- Team exercises to reinforce knowledge.
- Mock exam exercises to prepare students to pass the official certification exam.
- This course includes 4 practical case study exercises (“assignments”) in which students must demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge to predefined business cases.
Certifications
Certification is obtained through two evaluations:
- Four practical exercises on business cases
- Multiple choice questions (MCQ) exam
The candidate must successfully pass both the multiple choice exam and the practical tasks to achieve the certification. Successful completion of the practical tasks is a prerequisite for the MCQ exam.
Attendance at this course earns 24 PDUs from the Project Management Institute (PMI)®.
Since November 1, 2019, the authorized certification body (AXELOS) has established the associated exam as a mandatory requirement for this training; therefore, the training will always be offered with the exam.
The terms of additional certification services are subject to those established by the license owner or the authorized certification body.
